At last. My Back-Ordered Company of Heroes: Gold Edition has arrived. I am so delighted since this is my first time buying an original copy.
Lucky there’s a thing such as Online-Banking nowadays. With this, i have actually bought an original PC Game DVD from a store far from my home (Yeah, you won’t be able to persuade me to come to Selangor all the way from JB just to buy this). I must say, for a great RTS title, CoH Gold Edition is Very Cheap!! Only RM39.90. On the top of that, you’ll also get the expansion “Opposing Fronts”.
The original CoH was released in the year 2006 and was awarded with “Game of the Year” title. But i wasn’t able to play it since i was studying back then. Seeing the pricetag of CoH Gold Edition just sky-rocketted my eagerness to buy. Where else can you get a great title priced like that?
I’ll try to highlight the core differences in CoH compared to other RTS titles like C&C/Warcraft/Starcraft:
The setting for CoH is based on WW2.
CoH undoubtedly has the most usable objects on the map. From Barbwires to Sandbags, Bunkers to Buildings, Tree’s to Cliffs, Tanks & Vehicles (Can be used as a Cover wether it’s Functional or Ruined) and some other more.
Any Captured Building can be transformed into a Forward-Barracks, it can be used as a substitute Infantary Placement in favour of the distant original barracks.
Sources in CoH are Manpower, Ammunitions & Fuel, this can be acquired by Capturing strategic Points scattered around the map.
There are skills needed to Damage Tanks, you will need to move your unit closer to the Tanks Rear Position in order to Damage it’s Armor and Core Engine. Only then will the Tank be truly defeated. Remember, blown-up tanks can later be used as a Cover for your infantary. Might as well blow it to bits with sacthel bomb or bazooka. Wait, maybe Mortar Troops.. Firework is always “nice”.
When a Tank is defeated, it has more than 1 end. It may immediately explode like the usual, or Running Out of Control before ending up with a tragic death. But ultimately before that, the gunner of the tank will die first and then followed with armor & engine break thus resulting to the explosion.
Opposing Fronts introduces 2 new armies to the battlefields of Company of Heroes. Command the dogged British 2nd Army or take charge of the pride of the Werhmacht, the Panzer Elite. Each army introduces a new play style and explosive new abilities!
Extra Two Full Single Player Campaigns – Play as the Germans! Fight for the Liberation of Caen as the British. Repel the largest Airborne operation in history as the Panzer Elite during Operation Market Garden. For the first time, players get to play as the Germans in Single-Player!
Opposing Fronts takes the battle online with full-multiplayer compatibility with the original Company of Heroes for a total of four unique armies.
Pushing Real Time Strategy further with single-player mission persistence, dynamic weather and lighting that directly affects combat. New vehicle path finding, meta-formations, AI and physics enhancements, and new MP modes such as objective-based missions make Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts one the most exciting RTS game ever!
The Online Match in CoH is just unbelievably amazing. Since CoH uses Peer to Peer connection system, Should all participating players in a game sets their graphics accordingly.. there should be very little lag when playing, especially for those with moderate connections. I myself have tried from 1 vs 1 to 4 vs 4 with gamers far from Malaysia such as US, UK and Australia.
There are several ways to increase speed when playing online:
